Miss
Earth in brief
Miss
Earth Australia Pty Ltd, the producers of the Miss
Earth Australia 2006 competition, is an Australian
company that advances and supports today's women with
an environmental cause.
Contestants,
who become part of Miss Earth Australia, are savvy,
goal-oriented and environmentally aware, displaying
those characteristics in their everyday lives. They
are also committed to playing a part in preserving
the environment for future generations.
The
Miss Earth Australia pageant has been brought about
by the need to establish professionally produced pageants
in Australia. Miss Earth Australia will be an individual
who can make a positive contribution to our community,
our country and the world by becoming a role model
for raising awareness about environmental issues that
affect all of us today.
Beauties
for a cause...
The
Miss Earth Australia quest is part of the annual global
search for Miss Earth. It is one of the top 3 most
coveted titles in world beauty pageants. Miss Earth
2006 will be the largest pageant ever, devoted to
the single most important cause, our environment,
and the future of our Mother Earth. Entrants from
across the globe are currently being selected from
the hundreds of thousands of hopefuls dreaming to
be a beauty on the world stage.
All
eyes were fixed and camera lenses were focused on
the statuesque beauty queens as they regally walked
up the stage to introduce themselves individually
to the crowd. Their friendly smiles complemented their
shapely figures as they posed for the members of media.
As in the past, their different skin tones, hair color,
language and accent reminded everybody about their
diversity.
The
winner will travel to Manila, Philippines on November
26, 2006 instead of in Santiago, Chile on November
18, 2006 as previously announced and planned.
Cash
prize and non cash prizes.
May
we take this opportunity to invite you and your models
to be part of this prestigious and exciting event.
Our objective is to teach our community to care and
protect our worlds natural heritage.
Miss Earth
Miss
Earth is an annual international female beauty
pageant promoting environmental awareness. Established
in 2001, the Miss Earth pageant is recognized
as one of the three most prestigious beauty pageants
in the world in terms of size and quality (the
other two are Miss Universe and Miss World contests).
The reigning titleholders dedicate their year
to promote the event to address issues concerning
the environment.
History
Carousel
Productions Inc. organized and launched the first
Miss Earth beauty pageant in 2001. It was intended
to actively promote the preservation of the environment.
Those
who participate in the pageant are involved with
environmental causes. The pageant winner is expected
to become involved with international environmental
projects. These projects are promoted during the
pageant's broadcast. The delegates also take part
in tree planting ceremonies, environmental and
cultural immersion programs, sponsor visits and
tours.
The
Miss Earth pageant has grown, with an increasing
number of countries participating. The number
of national Miss Earth pageants has grown on every
continent as well.
In
2006, the host country Chile failed to meet the
requirements of the host committee; the pageant
was moved to The Philippines.
The
Miss Earth winner is the spokesperson for the
Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP) and other environmental groups.
Delegates
Miss
Earth gained worldwide press in 2003 after Vida
Samadzai, an Afghan woman now residing in the
United States, competed in a red bikini. Samadzai
was the first Afghan woman to compete in an international
beauty pageant in almost three decades, but the
fact that she wore a bikini caused an uproar in
her native country. She later became Ms. America
2005-06.
Miss
Earth also made headlines in 2005 when a Pakistani
beauty queen, Naomi Zaman, a Miss Pakistan World
winner participated for the first time. She is
the first delegate from Pakistan to compete in
any major international pageants. Beauty pageants
are frowned-upon in Pakistan.
Likewise,
Miss Earth Tibet 2006, Tsering Chungtak, the first
Tibetan who represented Tibet in any major international
beauty pageants made headlines. Aside from her
environmental cause, she raised international
attentions regarding the Tibetan struggle for
freedom. She also advocated for the boundaries
of acceptable social etiquette towards modernity,
in a traditionally conservative Tibetan culture,
where most grown women wear ankle-length dresses.
Nevertheless, her participation in the pageant
received an approval from the Dalai Lama She made
more headlines in December 2007, when she withdrew
her participation in the Miss Tourism contest,
a minor international beauty pageant held in Malaysia,
after organizers reacted to pressure from Beijing
and asked her to add "China" to her
"Miss Tibet" title by wearing a sash
labeled "Miss Tibet-China".
In
2007, Carousel Productions licensed the Miss Cuba
organization to select the first Cuban representative
to Miss Earth. Ariana Barouk won and became the
first Miss Cuba in several decades and competed
at the Miss Earth Pageant in which she drew mixed
reactions and global publicity. (Credit:
