Overdownunder Project

Over down under... the upside of depression.

My vision is to fly solo in a Powerchute unassisted from the ground to raise awareness about depression in Australia and to inspire those living lives of quiet desperation that someone is extending a hand through his own experience.

My mission is to gather a community of individuals to demonstrate a commitment of understanding and compassion through the project that supports those in need; when it looks like no one cares or knows, someone does and invariably, if you wait just a little longer, this will be proven. To deliver the message through this plight that failure in suicide is success in life; it's never that bad!

The intended outcome is to instill in those a that the worse they are feeling is usually the bottom of the emotional bounce, there is only one way to go from there - and that's up! Healing through inspiration; there is always a way and to never give up.

The Powerchute

The Powerchute was invented in 1992 in Melbourne Victoria where a need was identified in Australia for a safe, low-cost mode of air travel.

The company first introduced the concept of the powered parachute into Australia in early 1989 as a single seat model. Since then development and design changes have led to the current Dual Seat model . The company is engaged in the design, manufacture and construction of the Powerchute which it fabricates from raw materials into the parts needed to manufacture the finished product.

The plane has been approved by CASA (the Civil Aviation Safety Authority of Australia). The company is an accredited training organization for powered parachutes in Australia. The efficient backup of spare parts and extensive knowledge of the product provide the customer with a reliable company which provides excellent customer service and back up.

The Powerchute is a simple and safe way to fly. A two seater powered parachute designed specifically with safety and ease of operation in mind. It is designed to be virtually stall or spin resistant and in the case of an engine failure it simply lands safely as a parachute would.

It takes off from the ground with the parachute behind you. Once the engine is started the propeller inflates the canopy and the Powerchute takes off within 10 - 15m. Climbing and descending is controlled by using power through a foot throttle. Steering toggles (similar to parachutists) are used to turn left and right. Landing is achieved by backing the power off and flaring the parachute just above the ground.

The parachute is an 15 cell Ram Air canopy. It is 370 sq. ft. and made of a rip stop nylon. The parachute is designed not to stall or spin. The engine is a Rotax 503 two stroke. It puts out 52hp. and is used with a 2 or 3 blade propeller.

Drop by for a flight!
